Earlier today, on February 16th, Inter Miami competed in their last pre-season match against Newell’s Old Boys ahead of the upcoming 2024 season. In a nostalgic twist, Lionel Messi started in the game against his former team, resulting in a heartfelt 1-1 tie.

Following the game, players from Newell’s Old Boys had the chance to snap selfies with their hero Lionel Messi as they queued up to “get in the shot”. This is a special moment for the team, facing off against the owner of eight Ballon d’Or awards and the 2022 world champ.

Lionel Messi played for 60 minutes in the game before being substituted by the young player Lawson Sunderland. During his time on the field, Messi managed to take three shots, complete three dribbles, made 61 touches, and had an impressive passing accuracy of 87%.

Following their world tour, Lionel Messi and Inter Miami faced teams like New York City and El Salvador before concluding their journey in Saudi Arabia against Al Hilal. During their travels, they also had the chance to meet players from various teams, including Ronaldo’s Al Nassr. The team is now gearing up to face Newell’s Old Boys at DRV PNK’s home stadium after additional matches in China and Japan.

Looking ahead, Lionel Messi and Inter Miami are set to kick off their formal return to the 2024 MLS season on February 22, where they will take on Real Salt Lake in their first match of the season.
