A mother from Powys, South Wales, who has over 800 tattoos, has expressed that her social life has suffered after she was banned from her local pub. Melissa Sloan, a mother of seven, regularly gets new tattoos, sometimes using a £120 ink gun she bought from Amazon to tattoo herself. She started getting tattoos at the age of 20 and has since covered most of her face and body with various designs and symbols. Melissa has shared that she uses tattoos as a way to cope with past trauma from childhood abuse by her brother. Due to her heavily inked appearance, the 45-year-old claims she has been nicknamed ‘Crayola’ by the local community and has found herself being excluded from social events and gatherings.

However, Melissa reveals that her tattoo-covered body has made her social life more challenging, as she finds it difficult to be let into pubs. With a total of 800 tattoos, Melissa remains committed to her passion, even though she has faced multiple infections. She insists that she will continue to adorn her body with ink, undeterred by any obstacles that come her way.

Melissa shared that her lifestyle decisions have negatively impacted her social life. She mentioned that some of her tattoos have not healed properly, causing her skin to peel off and leaving behind scars. Despite this, Melissa expressed her unwavering commitment to continue getting tattoos until the very end. While some of her tattoos were professionally done, others were inked by her 56-year-old partner, Luke. Melissa also revealed that her young children have even contributed their own artwork on her back.
Melissa expressed her desire to have a fun night out at the pub but unfortunately, she mentioned that they have stopped allowing her to enter.
While Melissa had some of her tattoos done by professional tattoo artists, many were also inked by her partner, Luke, who is 56 years old. Melissa recently revealed that her “prison-style” tattoos were causing obstacles in her job search.
Reflecting on her job prospects, she expressed, “If I were to be offered a job tomorrow, I would gladly accept it. I understand the challenges I face due to my appearance, but I am true to myself and will always remain authentic.”
Melissa mentioned that her two young children from primary school have also decided to contribute their own creative additions to her back.
The recent update follows after Melissa mentioned that her tattoos, which she referred to as ‘prison-style’, were hindering her job search. Back in May, the mother shared that her tattoos served as a way for her to cope with the childhood sexual abuse she endured from her older brother. Gavin Sloan, 46, was recently sentenced to 21 years in prison for his appalling crimes of rape and abuse against other children. Melissa expressed that her tattoos serve as a shield to hide the emotional wounds inflicted by Gavin. With Gavin now behind bars, she feels a sense of liberation and can slowly begin to break free from the pain he caused.
Melissa declared that she plans to continue getting tattoos throughout her life, as she finds them thrilling and gets an adrenaline rush from the experience.
In May, the mother shared that her tattoos were a way for her to deal with the childhood sexual abuse she endured from her older brother. Melissa expressed her frustration with the lack of action taken by the police, as her brother was never charged for the alleged crimes. Melissa and Gavin grew up in Kidderminster with their mother, Doris, and two other siblings. She explained that although they have different fathers, they were raised as siblings. Melissa recounted an incident when she was six and Gavin was seven, where he touched her inappropriately during a bath. Despite telling her mother about it, she felt her concerns were dismissed, as they were both young children at the time and her mother didn’t fully believe her.
Melissa asserts that the police did not take her complaint seriously and that no charges were ever filed against him for the offenses she alleged.
Melissa and Gavin were raised in Kidderminster by their mother, Doris, along with two other siblings. Gavin is a year older than Melissa.
As Melissa got older, the situation at home became more difficult. Sharing a bedroom with Gavin, she experienced unwanted advances and pressure to engage in sexual acts. Gavin even went as far as spying on her through a hole he drilled in the bathroom door.
Feeling confused and trapped, Melissa tried to push back against Gavin, but his aggressive behavior made it difficult to defend herself. He justified his actions by claiming they were acceptable because they were only half-siblings.
Gavin’s inappropriate behavior also extended to verbal abuse and violent acts towards animals, creating a fearful environment for Melissa.
