When Lionel Messi’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain came to an end in the summer of 2023, he bid farewell to the club. Many fans are eager for a reunion between El Pulga and Barcelona.
Unfortunately, that reunion did not materialize. It came as a surprise to most when Messi chose to leave Europe and join Inter Miami to continue playing football.
Regarding this move, the 1987-born superstar recently shared his thoughts. Messi mentioned, “I received several offers from European clubs at that time. However, my heart was set on only playing for Barcelona. After everything I went through and how I had to depart without a second thought, my longing to return to Barcelona grew stronger.”
He also mentioned discussing the possibility of a return with Xavi. He expressed excitement about the idea of reuniting with the club he truly loves.
Lionel Messi made the decision to sign with Inter Miami last summer instead of returning to Barcelona, despite La Liga giving their approval for his return. While money was not a concern and contract negotiations had not even begun, there were other issues to consider. There was no official offer of employment and Messi was not interested in being part of discussions about lowering player salaries or selling teammates to accommodate his return. If financial assistance was needed, he would have chosen to play in Saudi Arabia.
